The Judith Reppy Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies awarded the 2011 Harrop and Ruth Freeman Prize to Cornell graduating senior Jillian Lyon.

Jillian Lyon was a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in Government and International Relations. At Cornell she was involved with the Cornell International Affairs Society, as well as the Bridges to Community organization. Through Bridges to Community she made two service trips to Nicaragua and continued to work to strengthen bridges between Cornell students and the Nicaraguan communities with which they interact. While studying abroad in Jordan for one semester, Jillian worked at an English school for Iraqi refugees. Her summer experiences include working as an employment advocate for refugees with the International Rescue Committee in Baltimore, MD and working as a journalist and law intern for the Public Cause Research Foundation in Uttar Pradesh, India.

After graduation Jillian planned to go to Egypt for a year-long fellowship called the American University in Cairo Presidential Fellowship, where she would be working in the Office of Communications and Marketing.
