2011 Honorable Mention

The Judith Reppy Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies awarded an honorable mention in the 2011 Harrop and Ruth Freeman Prize competition to Cornell graduating senior Ali Hussain, shown here with 2011 winner Julian Lyon.

Ali Hussain was a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in government, and was in the College Scholar Program. For his senior honors thesis he studied sectarianism in Pakistan. Among his many activities at Cornell, he was a board member of the Islamic Alliance for Justice (IAJ), and was involved with the Telluride Association. His summer experiences include an internship at Google, work on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs doing research for Congressman Keith Ellison, and work with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

After graduation he planned to work in the summer at the Brookings Institute working on Foreign Policy. The next fall, Hussain planned on pursuing graduate studies in the United Kingdom on a Marshall Scholarship. He planned to pursue eventually a career related to international policy, diplomacy, and peacekeeping.
